Our Approach

Evidence-Based Treatment

Whether this is your first time trying to get sober, or if you have tried to quit a hundred times before, we are here to help you find ways to change your life once and for all.

We only use treatments that are proven to help with cravings, withdrawal symptoms, and relapse prevention.

Addiction rarely comes alone. You might be battling with depression, anxiety, or family issues that drain your motivation and make it harder to recover from your substance use.

Substance use and mental health go hand in hand, which is why we are a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder program. This means we focus on helping you navigate both your addiction and your  at the same time.

Our Team

Credentialed People You Can Actually Connect With

We know that in the past, you or your loved ones might have felt judged or misunderstood, which is why we approach our work with compassion and respect.

The team members at our outpatient and residential treatment centers in Virginia are not only fully credentialed but also incredibly caring and approachable. We are always here to listen and support you on your journey to recovery.

To ensure you receive well-rounded care, each client is assigned a multidisciplinary team, which includes a psychiatrist, individual therapist, family therapist, and a dedicated teacher. This team-based approach allows us to address your unique needs comprehensively and provide you with the personalized support you deserve.

Our Clients Experience Reduced Levels of Anxiety and Depression

At Sandstone Care, we know disorders like anxiety and depression can have a profound impact on one’s ability to enjoy life. That’s why our treatment programming addresses both addiction and mental health challenges.

In a recent study of people who completed treatment with us, the group reported a 57% decrease in anxiety symptoms. The same group also experienced a 78% decrease in symptoms of depression.

These are life changing numbers for our alumni. And for those experiencing addiction, they can be the difference between relapse and lasting recovery.

Young Adult Programs

We have a variety of different programs available in Virginia for young adults who need help with substance abuse and mental health concerns.

Residential Extended Care

Our Residential Extended Care programs offer young adults the opportunity to live in a therapeutic, recovery-focused setting while receiving comprehensive addiction and mental health treatment.

Partial Hospitalization (PHP)

Our Day Treatment program, sometimes referred to as Partial Hospitalization or PHP, was created for teens and young adults who need a highly structured environment in order to succeed in their recovery.

Transitional Living Program

Young men who are enrolled in our program may choose to live at our transitional living home while in treatment. This is a good option for clients whose current living situation is not conducive to recovery.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Our intensive outpatient program or “IOP” provides around 16 hours per week of clinical groups and activities including academic and vocational sessions, group therapy, and experiential activities. This is a longer-term program lasting 8-12 weeks.

Teen Residential in Chesapeake, MD

For teens who require more structure and supervision than an outpatient program can provide, we offer our Chesapeake Teen Rehab located near Crownsville, MD.

This 45-60 day program is geared towards teens who are struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders like depression, anxiety, trauma, and PTSD.

Upon completion of our residential program, teens can step down into our after-school IOP program. We have offices located in Rockville and Reston. If we aren’t a good fit, we will help you find an appropriate therapist or program to continue your teen’s recovery.

You Have Questions, We Have Answers

Our goal is to provide the most helpful information. Please reach out to us if you have any additional questions. We are here to help in any way we can.

Cost depends on the location of the recovery center and health insurance plans. We keep our treatment services as affordable as possible while still maintaining the highest-quality healthcare possible. We are in-network with many private insurance providers. Call our admissions helpline at (888) 850-1890 or verify your insurance. Please note that we do not take Medicare or Medicaid.

If you do not have insurance coverage, we will work with you to explore payment options and if necessary, provide referrals to other treatment providers so that you can start feeling better as soon as possible.

Yes. We have a adolescent track, which is for teens ages 13-17, and a young adult track for individuals ages 18-30.

For adolescents and young adults, family plays an important role in a their wellness. These relationships can either help or hinder a person’s mental health. To give our clients the best chance at healing, we offer individual family therapy sessions bi-weekly.

During these sessions, we examine the family’s role in helping their loved one break out of old patterns of behavior in favor of new, healthier patterns.

More importantly, we aim to facilitate a stronger connection between the family unit, because we know that in recovery, connection is key. Our program also utilizes weekly multi-family support groups as a source of support and guidance. We ensure that family members are informed of all available crisis services and community resources.

By inviting the whole family unit to counseling at our medical centers, we make sure our behavioral health services are comprehensive and inclusive.

Yes! We offer a few different inpatient and residential options for teens and young adults who are in need of a higher level of care.

Our Medication-Assisted Detox Program takes place at our Virginia Detox center in Fairfax County, and was created for individuals above the age of 18 who need assistance with detoxification from drugs or alcohol. This inpatient treatment program is led by a highly trained and qualified team of doctors, nurses, psychologists, and licensed therapists. Along with medication-assisted treatment, the treatment facility offers private rooms and 24/7 medically supervised care to support a safe and comfortable stabilization. Following medical stabilization, clients are invited to engage in a comprehensive addiction recovery treatment program that addresses physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual needs. The program includes Individual and group therapy along with full medical, psychiatric care, behavioral therapy, and psychological assessments. Please note, our medical detox facility is not a methadone clinic.

Our Transitional Living Program is available for young adults in our day treatment and intensive outpatient programs. The transitional living homes are gender-specific and staffed 24/7 by addiction and mental health professionals. These houses provide stability, structure, and support during the early stages of recovery.

There are many signs that getting help might be necessary. Some signs may include changes in friend groups, under-preforming at school, running away, participating in illicit activities, engaging in risky behavior, or acts of self-harm.

The amount of treatment needed is dependent on each individual. A licensed clinician performs a thorough and comprehensive clinical assessment to better understand the unique needs of each person.

Some factors that may determine how much treatment you need are:

  • The severity of your mental health challenge or drug addiction/alcohol addiction
  • What types of substances you depend on
  • If you struggle with any behavioral health issues
  • Whether or not you would benefit from a residential program
  • How long you have had a dependency on substances
  • Whether you have previously been involved with any other rehab programs or substance abuse treatment
  • If you have attended a 12-step program

Yes. Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is proven to be effective in treating substance use disorders, especially in combination with evidence-based therapy and counseling. Our personalized programming is designed to learn your needs and goals so we can choose the best course of treatment for your specific challenges. By offering medically-supervised withdrawal from substances, we help our clients recover quickly and safely from drug or alcohol use.

We also recognize that not all situations call for MAT. Our medical team will evaluate your circumstances and determine what type of treatment is appropriate for you. Learn more about Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) here.

The assessment is the first step for all of our clients. The primary reason for the assessment is for us to get to know you and your situation so we can recommend the right program for you, whether that is at one of Sandstone Care’s treatment facilities, or somewhere else.

When you come in for an assessment, we start creating an aftercare plan for you right away, so that you won’t have to worry about bridging the gap yourself between treatment services and your day-to-day life.

You can begin the process by calling our admissions department. If you or a loved one are experiencing an emergency mental health crisis, please call the suicide prevention crisis line at 988 or SAMHSA’s national helpline at 1-800-662-4357.
