Sophie Sperry is a dedicated Adolescent Dual Diagnosis IOP Therapist at Sandstone Care Alexandria. She holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Before joining Sandstone Care, Sophie gained valuable experience working with individuals diagnosed with severe mental illness, which has enriched her practice and understanding of mental health challenges.
As a Supervisee in Social Work (MSW), Sophie employs a strengths-based, person-centered approach in her therapy sessions. She believes in highlighting her clients’ strengths and values, helping them recognize their own potential and ways they can thrive. By combining this approach with motivational interviewing, Sophie empowers adolescents to focus on their strengths rather than their perceived shortcomings.
Although Sophie is relatively new to the field, with nearly eight months of experience working with adolescents, she has a solid background in dealing with severe mental illness. This blend of experiences enables her to provide compassionate and effective care to her clients.
Sophie prides herself on being an ally and advocate for her clients, ensuring that her therapy sessions are a safe space free from judgment. She is passionate about helping her clients make meaningful connections within themselves, leading to self-discovery and a greater sense of self-worth. She also enjoys witnessing the supportive environment that group therapy at Sandstone Care fosters, where clients encourage and uplift one another.
Outside of her professional life, Sophie has a variety of interests that keep her engaged and fulfilled. She loves art, watching scary movies, baking, and playing field hockey. She also cherishes spending time with her family, friends, and her beloved pets – a pitbull and a vizsla-mix.
