Michelle McCoy serves as the Clinical Program Director at North Bethesda, where her extensive education and experience in mental health and addiction counseling make her a pivotal member of the team. Michelle holds a Master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University and another in Counseling from The Johns Hopkins University. Her diverse clinical background includes working with survivors of traumatic brain injuries, children, adolescents, couples, and adults facing a wide range of challenges from anxiety and depression to trauma and substance use disorders.
Michelle is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and Licensed Clinical Professional Mental Health (LCPMH). She utilizes an eclectic therapeutic approach, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), solution-focused, reality, and humanistic therapies to cater to the unique needs of her clients. This flexibility allows her to effectively support individuals through various stages of their lives, including those exploring their sexuality and/or gender identity and navigating complex relationship issues.
A hallmark of Michelle’s practice is her humor, which she believes helps in making the therapeutic process more relatable and less intimidating for her clients. She is deeply passionate about counseling and dedicated to helping clients gain insight into their conditions while recognizing and harnessing their internal strengths.
Outside of her professional role, Michelle enjoys a rich personal life filled with activities like playing backgammon, chess, watching movies, and reading. These hobbies not only provide relaxation and enjoyment but also keep her mind sharp and ready to tackle the complex needs of her clients.
