Chicagoland Behavioral Health Services for Teens & Young Adults

Life can feel heavy during your teen and young adult years — especially when you’re navigating challenges like anxiety, depression, or trauma. If you’re looking for counseling services in Buffalo Grove, we’re here to help with age-specific care that meets you where you are.

Our Buffalo Grove Mental Health Center provides in-person Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Programming (PHP). These flexible options provide comprehensive mental health care while allowing you to continue meeting your daily responsibilities.

With a low client-to-staff ratio, our center for mental wellness ensures you’ll receive dedicated attention and custom outpatient treatment plans — not one-size-fits-all counseling. At Sandstone Care, we’ll guide you through your difficult moments and teach coping skills you can put into practice right away.

Our Clients Experience Reduced Levels of Anxiety and Depression

At Sandstone Care, we know mental health disorders like anxiety and depression can have a profound impact on one’s well-being. That’s why treatment programming at our mental health facilities in Illinois addresses both addiction and mental health challenges.

In a recent study of people who completed treatment with us, the group reported a 57% decrease in anxiety symptoms. The same group also experienced a 78% decrease in symptoms of depression.

These are life changing numbers for our alumni and their loved ones. And for those experiencing addiction, they can be the difference between relapse and lasting recovery.

“Sometimes navigating the mental health world can be a nightmare, [but Sandstone] is a very welcoming and easy environment.” – Nick

When Nick and his partner Alex arrived at Sandstone, they knew this was going to be different than any anxiety and depression center they’d experienced before. During their time with us, they learned how to navigate Nick’s diagnosis, advocate for his mental health, and strengthen their relationship through family therapy.

But don’t take our word for it: Listen to Nick and Alex’s shared experience of Sandstone’s outpatient treatment, in which programming prioritizes both clients and their family members.

Medication management can be an important part of the treatment process. If medication is recommended, our medication provider will see the client on a regular basis until an ongoing provider is established. If a client has an outside provider and they would like them to continue to guide their medication during Sandstone IOP, a release will be required to ensure integrated care.

Our Buffalo Grove therapy and mental health programs may be a good fit for teens and young adults using substances to cope with underlying emotional or psychological challenges. We recognize that substance abuse often stems from untreated mental health issues, which is why our approach addresses both — together.

With integrated case management and a focus on whole-person care, we help you build stability, confidence, and long-term support for recovery.

We offer intimate, small groups that prioritize a well-balanced recovery approach. Our focus is on utilizing various psychotherapy techniques, including weekly multifamily sessions and academic/vocational skill building twice a week. These groups are led by licensed clinicians and medical providers who are available for medication management and collaborate regularly with each clinician.

Our clinical groups consist of skills-based programs, emphasizing the use of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). We also provide person-centered process groups designed for individuals dealing with mental illnesses such as depression, OCD, anxiety, suicidal ideation, and past trauma. Please note that we do not treat eating disorders.

Family support is essential to long-term wellness and meaningful change. Our program includes bi-weekly individual family sessions to explore how family dynamics can support healthier patterns of behavioral health and interrupt cycles that may have reinforced harmful behaviors.

We also offer a weekly family therapy group to strengthen the skills being developed in treatment and provide a consistent space for connection, guidance, and shared support.

Call (888) 850-1890 to speak with one of our experienced admissions coordinators. We’ll take time to understand your needs and walk you through your options. If Sandstone Care isn’t the right fit, we’ll connect you with a trusted referral that is.

Please note: We are not a walk-in clinic, and all visits must be scheduled in advance.

Our care team is made up of licensed clinicians, medical providers, and an onsite teacher — all working together to support your goals through coordinated, whole-person care. If you’re looking for a trusted therapist in Arlington Heights or Buffalo Grove, our integrated team offers comprehensive support tailored to your needs.
