Teenagers are at the stage where they are learning and preparing for everything the future holds for them, like college, work, relationships, etc. Medication is an important area where a teen will need to learn how to manage it to maintain their health.
The ideal time to begin training your teen in medication management is junior or senior year of high school. It is critical that teens become experts on their own medications, so this training provides enough time to build a strong habit and be able to responsibly maintain their well-being while on their own.

We take the three-step approach when teaching teens how to manage their medications.
The three steps include: I do, we do, you do.
During this step, you are teaching your child about their medications and how to take them. You are verbally explaining the steps as you do them.
This is where your teen begins to help with managing their medication. You are taking the steps together, they are doing the work, but you are providing verbal guidance and supervision.
You’ll provide your teen with written instructions on how to take their medication. Once your teen is able to successfully take their meds after following your instructions, then they will be able to be independent.
