Signs Your Teen Needs Treatment

As a parent or guardian, it’s important to be aware of signs that may indicate your teen needs mental health treatment. Red flag symptoms include:

  • Persistent sadness/low self-esteem
  • Withdrawal from friends and activities
  • Decline in academic performance
  • Heightened irritability and behavioral issues
  • Eating disorders like anorexia or bulimia
  • Changes in sleep patterns
  • Expressing thoughts of self-harm or thoughts of suicide

Trust your instincts as a parent—if something feels off, seeking professional guidance is crucial. Do not wait for more warning signs to get your child the behavioral health support they need.

Our Clients Experience Reduced Levels of Anxiety and Depression

At Sandstone Care, we know disorders like anxiety and depression can have a profound impact on one’s ability to enjoy life. That’s why our treatment programming addresses both addiction and mental health challenges.

In a recent study of people who completed treatment with us, the group reported a 57% decrease in anxiety symptoms. The same group also experienced a 78% decrease in symptoms of depression.

These are life changing numbers for our alumni. And for those experiencing addiction, they can be the difference between relapse and lasting recovery.

Teenagers Having Fun Outside

Learning Through Fun and Experiential Treatment

Your teen doesn’t want to sit on a couch all day talking to a stranger with a clipboard — and neither do we!

While individual therapy helps teens confront their mental health problems, research shows that getting up and moving expedites the healing process. Your teen’s well-being is deeply impacted by fun and exploration.

Both our intensive outpatient programming (IOP) and partial hospitalization programming (PHP) include various experiential therapies such as art therapy, yoga, physical activities, and outdoor adventures.

These experiences supplement traditional outpatient treatment methods to help your teen become their happiest, healthiest self.

Benefits of Evidence-Based Therapy

Evidence-based therapies use approaches that have been proven effective through scientific research. Your goals drive the design of your treatment, so you can trust that the skills you are gaining are actually relevant to the life you want to build for yourself.

Using evidence-based treatments, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), ensures that the methods used by therapists are not just based on theories but are backed by solid evidence so that your mental health care is never left up to chance.

Some additional benefits include:

Lasting Results

The American Psychological Association created the policies for EBT using the best research available. Studies have shown that these therapy treatments lead to longer-lasting results.

Cost Effective

Since these kinds of treatments are scientifically proven to be more effective, the chances of relapse are less likely, which means less money spent on future treatments.

More Accountability for Therapists

EBT requires specialized training in the different kinds of therapies, which means you are guaranteed qualified, verified therapists are in charge of your care.

Clinically Effective

EBTs are safe and proven treatments, so you can feel confident that your teen’s recovery is not left up to chance. Your teen’s mental health assessments and preferences will determine which EBTs are used in their treatment plans.

Medication management can be an important part of the treatment process. If medication is recommended, our medication provider will see you and your teen on a regular basis until an ongoing adolescent health provider is established.

The teenage mental health program may be appropriate for a teen who is using substances to cope with their mental health concerns. If substance abuse continues to be the primary issue being addressed, then a substance use program may be the correct care and a referral will be made.

At Sandstone Care, our mental health program for teens stands out because it’s specifically tailored to their age group. Recognizing the unique needs and experiences of teenagers, our age-specific approach ensures that the support and interventions provided are relevant and effective for this stage of life.

This specificity is crucial because it allows us to address the developmental, emotional, and social aspects that are distinct to high school students. This specialization is especially important post-pandemic, when more than ever, our youth are experiencing a prevalence of suicidal thoughts and mental health problems.

By focusing on the particular challenges faced by teens, we create an environment that resonates with them.

Family plays a vital role in teen treatment. Individual family therapy sessions are offered bi-weekly to examine the role the family plays in creating new patterns of behavior.

In order for your teen to recover from their mental illness or mental disorder, they need a mental health treatment program that incorporates full family-support.

Our program also offers weekly multi-family group. These groups reinforce new skills being learned in individual family therapy, and provide extra support and guidance for family members.

You can begin the process of entering your child into our teen treatment centers by calling our admissions department at (888)-850-1890.

Youth mental health care is provided by a treatment team of adolescent mental health professionals who collaborate with each client to reach their goals. Every treatment facility has a team that consists of licensed clinicians, medical providers, and a teacher.
