Despite all of the beauty, Maryland deals with one of the worst drug problems in the United States.
Many individuals face drug and alcohol addiction, with opioids being a frontrunner. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, Maryland is among the top five states with the highest rates of opioid-related deaths, with its death rate being above the national average since 1999.
Statistics such as these can be difficult to read. Despite the disheartening information above, Maryland offers many therapeutic and community resources for those struggling with substance abuse, as well as their families.
